Monday, October 18, 2021 — The twin-island paradise of Antigua and Barbuda is on show at the world expo ‘Expo Dubai 2020’ being held in Dubai under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.

Antigua and Barbuda’s pavilion located in the ‘Mobility’ section of the expo; displays the remarkable strides the Caribbean nation has made in its socio-economic development over the years.

Saint Lucia Crowned ‘Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination’

Castries, October 18, 2021 – Saint Lucia has won the award for ‘Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination’ at the 28th annual World Travel Awards. President and Founder of World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, presented the award to Tourism Minister Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire at the ongoing Dubai Expo, in the presence of the other senior tourism officials.

American Airlines Resumes Service To Martinique

New York, NY (October 18, 2021) – Flights to Martinique from the United States will resume thanks to American Airlines.  Beginning November 6th, the carrier will start its nonstop service between Miami International Airport and Fort-de-France’s Aimé Césaire International Airport.  The flights will operate once a week on Saturdays before increasing to three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for Christmas and the second half of February through March.

White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational Returns To Atlantis Paradise Island

October 18, 2021 (Paradise Island, Bahamas) The prestigious White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational, featuring some of the top collegiate golf teams in the United States, returns to the Ocean Club Golf Course at Atlantis Paradise Island with 19 teams, led by the host schools the University of Miami and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Touted by 2019 attendees as one of golf’s finest collegiate events, the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational features 54 holes of women’s competition followed by 54 holes of men’s competition starting on October 22 at the acclaimed Ocean Club Golf Course, which has hosted several premier events, most recently the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic.

The tournament week begins with practice rounds for seven women’s teams on October 20. Soon after, on October 27, twelve men’s teams convene to start their tournament week with practice rounds. A welcome reception also is planned for the participants on those respective dates.

The White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational provides an overall experience for players and coaches that is unmatched in college golf, thanks to the quality of the Ocean Club Golf Course, the luxury accommodations and amenities of Atlantis Paradise Island, the incredible tropical weather and genuine Bahamian hospitality.

Both tournaments are 54 holes contested on the par-72 Ocean Club Golf Course at Atlantis Paradise Island, designed by former major champion Tom Weiskopf. The women will compete on a course set up at 6,415 yards, while the men will play it at 7,159 yards.

For the inaugural competition in 2019, the University of Texas won the women’s competition with a score of 828, and the University of Houston won the men’s event by posting 833.

“In 19 years of NCAA college golf, this is the most memorable experience,” said Jonathan Dismuke, Director of Golf and Head Men’s Golf Coach at the University of Houston.

“The experience my guys received is one that will never be matched in college golf,” added Georgia State University Men’s Golf Coach Chad Wilson.

Makana Ferries Starts Operations in November

Blues and Blues Ltd. of Anguilla is scheduled to start with the inter-island trips between Statia, Saba and Sint Maarten on November 1, 2021. Preparations by an inter-island team are in full progress to be able to meet this date. Information on the fares and the exact schedule information will soon follow.

Blues and Blues Ltd of Anguilla won the tender for the inter-island maritime connectivity with the M/V Makana. Makana is a 72 inch Sabre catamaran fast ferry, capable of carrying 150 passengers across two decks. There is a lower deck, an upper (open) sun deck and an upper business class area. The lower deck and the upper area are both fully air conditioned and outfitted with two toilets and a bar.

The Makana will provide ample luggage and cargo functionality. The catamaran will cruise comfortably at an operational speed of 23 knots with maximum speed of 31knots. The trips will be approximately 45 minutes from Saba to Statia, 75 minutes from Saba to St. Maarten and 85 minutes from Statia to St. Maarten. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in St. Kitts, the route to this island cannot be scheduled yet until further notice.  

Makana is the Hawaiian word for “Gift”Blues & Blues Ltd. welcomed the vessel into its fleet recently. Passengers can expect a friendly and reliable service complete with onboard WiFi and online customer services. The Makana will be stationed in Statia or Saba. Residents are encouraged to apply for vacant positions as crew members.
