The Caribbean Tourism Awards Presentation and Dinner is the occasion at which the Caribbean Tourism Organization recognizes journalists and photographers who have published captivating and influential stories on the region; the allied members for their continued support of the work of the Organization; and other industry professionals who do excellent work in the spirit of industry legends – the late Marcia Vickery Wallace and Marcella Martinez.
CTO Lifetime Achievement Award
The CTO Lifetime Achievement Award is the most prestigious distinction honoring long-serving, high-performance professionals whose careers have truly made a difference in the Caribbean. The award is for accomplishments over a period of several years rather than a single contribution. It acknowledges successes that distinguishes the individual’s work and provides both inspiration and a legacy for future generations.
Marcella Martinez Award
Established in 2004, the Marcella Martinez Award is presented annually for unparalleled achievement in the design and implementation of successful programs to strengthen and support Caribbean tourism. The award is named in honor of Jamaican Marcella Martinez, who dedicated her extraordinary career as a public relations professional to the promotion of tourism to the Caribbean.
The Marcia Vickery-Wallace Award
The Marcia Vickery-Wallace Award was established in 1987 as a tribute to Marcia Vickery-Wallace, former editor of Brides Magazine. Each year the Jamaica Tourist Board, in conjunction with the CTO, dedicates an award in her memory to a journalist who has followed in her footsteps with the same dedication to promoting the Caribbean region.
The Caribbean Media Awards celebrate the very best in US and Caribbean travel journalism and reward the individuals, organisations and destinations who produce and present exceptional work. This year we have added two new categories – the Up the Social Ladder award for best social media campaign by a CTO member country and the Look, I’m Going Social award for most outstanding social media coverage of an event/activity in or about a CTO member country by a journalist or influencer.
Established in 2005, the Allied Award is presented to an individual from among the CTO family – (Government Member, Carrier Member (Airlines and Cruise Lines), Allied Member(which includes Hotels, Tour Operator, Marketing Company, Newspaper, Magazine, Television), Affiliate Members and CTO staff – who has done an extraordinary job of contributing, in a tangible way, to the sustainable development of the region.
Conceived in 1997 in memory of the late Jerry Magit who represented the Allied members on the CTO Board of Directors, the award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a passion for the development of the region and has dedicated time, energy, financial and other personal and professional resources to its development.
Special Recognition Awards
The Special Recognition Award honors, a high performance professional whose contribution, particularly in the last year has truly made a difference. It is not limited to service directly in the travel industry but for service in any ancillary industry that supports tourism and brings continuous positive recognition to the Region.
